About Deborah Howard

- One out of every three-to-four girls experience incest. Most of them are conditioned to forget it, normalize it, or to doubt that it even occurred. Based on these figures, incest itself does not appear to be taboo; what is taboo is talking about it. By writing about my experience, I hope to break through this taboo and encourage candid and open conversation about incest, enabling survivors to bring their dark parts into the light to achieve healing and liberation.
- My story reveals a personal journey of how families and society actively deny girls and women their voice and invalidate their reality. It parallels stories of marginalized individuals and groups whose truth is denied by society and others, often even themselves. I hope to shed light on the various ways that society silences many and help those silenced to find their voices and speak up.
- All of us struggle with self-doubt of all kinds; it is only by bringing these thoughts from dark hidden recesses into the light of day that they can be conquered. In my book, I faced my self-doubts head on, enabling me to overcome them and liberate myself.
