The Secret to her success? Values-based leadership. Dr. Betty Uribe is an internationally renowned bilingual and bicultural speaker and author, who is recognized for her expertise in values-based leadership. She currently is the Executive Vice President of California Bank & Trust (CB&T)’s Greater Southern California Division and has P&L responsibility for Commercial, Business and Personal Banking, which also includes its distribution network. California Bank & Trust is a $12 billion organization and a division of Zions Bancorporation, which has over $55 billion in assets. Under Uribe’s leadership, CB&T has been named the “Best Bank in Orange County” by the Orange County Register for three consecutive years. My goal is to provide 100 scholarships for underserved young adults in each continent.

THE SECRETS THAT YOU FOUND FOR TOP LEVEL PERFORMANCES IN BUSINESS

  • The leaders tend to be a certain way in business and different person in their personal life so the parallels between the two are really important.
  • One of the secrets is being yourself and don’t try to be somebody else. Be yourself and have your own voice also be congruent. Be very clear on what you value the most.
  • What are your personal values that you don’t expect other to have the same values? Understand your values and make decisions based on your values.
  • Keep your company with individuals or people around you who are aligned with same values system then life would be very simple and you don’t have to go against the tide. Unless you are asked to do something different than what you are doing.
  • The important piece is the humility factor. All of them have a higher purpose on what they do.

THE COMMON THREADS THAT YOU FOUND IN THE STUDY OF THESE LEADERS

  • There are two types of values: terminal values and instrumental values.
  • Terminal values are values that are used at the end of your life, when you are lying at your bed and you are at the end of your life what is it that you value the most?
  • Instrumental values are values that you use in the course of your leadership journey.
  • The top terminal values were family, health, spirituality, wisdom and freedom.
  • The top instrumental values were integrity, courage, responsibility, helpful and loving.
  • A common thread between all of them are they are all learners, humble and a good listener. Not just they were good leaders but they are also good followers.

THE RULES OF CONGRUENCY AND INTEGRITY PLAYS IN LEADERSHIP

  • Integrity and congruency play a big role in our abilities as leaders to create and build trust within our leadership team and entire organization.
  • The congruency between what you are and what people see you as being.
  • The congruency between your values and actions will tell the person exactly who you really are.
  • The integrity between what you say your values are and what you are actually acting out that creates the trust.
  • A lot of company are looking to create congruency between their value system and what their actions are because they wanna create that trust.
  • Only then you can ask more to your people when they trust you.
  • You set the context for your family, friends and people at work, once that context is set you get freedom because everybody knows when to interrupt to and they respect it.
