3 big ideas discussed in this episode:

  • Five women in the genealogy of Jesus remind us there is nothing we have ever done or could disqualify us from a life chosen and used by God.

Show Notes:

FIVE WOMEN IN THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS REMIND US THERE IS NOTHING WE HAVE EVER DONE OR COULD DISQUALIFY US FROM A LIFE CHOSEN AND USED BY GOD.

  • Sometimes we feel that we can’t be used by God, that maybe we weren’t good enough or maybe there’s something that happened in our past that has left some scars or maybe there’s an open wound that still there and we think we are just too broken.
  • In the scriptures of course, these five women we see this and even all the characters we find in the scriptures are broken, they are messed up and God chose them on purpose.
  • It’s like God wants to show off his powers and it’s actually your weakness that qualifies you.
  • It’s never too late for you, God always got a use for you in the world and it doesn’t matter how many mistakes that you made.
  • It is important to study the bible individually or as a group.
  • Past will define us unless we allow it to refine us. We have to start looking back a little bit and figure out where is God and what He’s been doing.
  • Look at the story of each of these women: Rahab, Tamar, Ruth, Batsheba and Mary.
  • Our goal is to find ourselves in one of these women and hopefully all of them.
  • Sometimes when we read the bible it can feel sort of foreign to us and think that what does this have to do with me and how does this affect me.
  • Getting to know these women and hopefully try to get inside who they really were and their struggles that we are experiencing too.
  • Rahab is known to be a prostitute and yet God uses her to open up a door to His people to inherit a land that has been promised to them for 400 years.
  • She became the key person to the story that God is writing.
  • It’s a reminder to us that even if she had this label on her or how people view her as a prostitute but God didn’t see that, God saw how He was going to use her in his story.
  • If God uses Rahab, He can use us too.
  • Having somebody in your life that tells they care about you is an enough encouragement to someone who is feeling down.
  • One of the most important things you can do is look for where do you want to go and just take a couple of steps will give you a little bit of confidence and that confidence will get you to the next step.

WE ALL GET TO BE A PART OF THE STORY GOD IS WRITING HERE AND NOW.

  • Bible is a story that is being written, God has chosen from the very beginning to write us into the story.
  • He’s still doing it now, writing the story of our lives.
  • What kind of story do we want to live? How can we open ourselves to God who writes great adventure story in through us?
  • The best kind of stories are filled with drama and all kinds of negative turn, without those, it wouldn’t be very exciting.

GOD SEES VALUE AND WORTH IN YOU RIGHT NOW.

  • We spent so much of our lives trying to find our identity in sort of lost path. We seek to find our identity to what people say to us and what material possessions that we have.
  • But the truth of the matter is that we are children of God and that’s where our identity comes from.
  • When we uncover our worth we’re reminded that it doesn’t come from any outside source but it comes from God alone.
  • When Jesus was baptized by John, God said that he is His beloved son even if he hasn’t done any ministry yet or healed anybody yet.
  • It’s who we are and Him that gives us value and worth, it’s not what we do or what other people say to us.
  • By opening ourselves to God we begin to sense that love, grace, and mercy, it comes to us in all kinds of different packages.
  • What you look for you will see, if you start to pray for that value to be uncovered to you and you listen intently it may not happen immediately but those things will be revealed to you in very subtle ways.

Quotes:

  •  If God uses Rahab, He can use us too.
  •  God has chosen from the very beginning to write us into the story.
  •  We are children of God and that’s where our identity comes from.
  •  If you start to pray for that value to be uncovered to you and you listen intently it may not happen immediately but those things will be revealed to you in very saddled ways.
