YOUR AGE AND GENETICS HAVE LESS POWER OVER YOUR HEALTH THAN YOUR VISION AND YOUR BELIEFS

  • Our body is just 5% genetics and 95% lifestyle.

EATING RIGHT, EXERCISING AND TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF PAYS OFF AS YOU GET OLDER

  • Last April 2015, there was the first longitudinal study on this idea in Scripps Institute San Diego.
  • It had to do with the “Wellderly Study”, wherein they study the wellderly generation which is the people 80 years and older who have reached that age and continue with no chronic diseases.
  • They uncovered 3 main things that make people well: (1) back in their 40’s they change their life in the way they eat, they began to eat paleo or Mediterranean diet and stopped eating junked foods; (2) they started doing weight-bearing exercises which is not just walking instead it has to do with lifting weights; (3) they found a community.
  • Our brains are wired for connection and when we lose connection and make ourselves isolated we can be easily depressed.
  • Carbs are not evil they are part of a healthy diet. You need carbohydrates for your brain to function and to have energy.
  • Find carbs that have a lower glycemic effect.
  • As much as possible stay away from refined sugar, refined flour, and alcohol.

YOU ARE NOT GETTING OLD TO DIE, YOU ARE GETTING OLD TO LIVE

  • People nowadays are living longer, our medicine and science are improving.
  • We want to change our beliefs about what it means to age, we can be quite old and very active.
  • You can be strong and healthy for a very long time. Remember, you are going to get old and live.
